Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) is a promising nonpharmacological therapy for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study investigated whether home-based supported training (HST) with an IMT device was superior to conventional home-based exercise training (CHT) in improving functional capacity (6-min walk test [6-MWT]) and inspiratory muscle strength (PImax) in patients with COPD. Sixty-one patients were randomized to HST with IMT, HST without IMT (placebo), or CHT. All groups received a home-based exercise training program (three times/week for 12 weeks). The 6-MWT and PImax were evaluated before and after the intervention. The 6-MWT distances after the intervention were significantly improved in both the HST with IMT and CHT groups (339 ± 108 and 330 ± 107 m, respectively; P 0.05) compared with baseline values (295 ± 90 m and 291 ± 86 m, respectively). The PImax was significantly increased in the HST with IMT group (3.1 ± 2.7 cm H2O) and CHT group (3.2 ± 2.6 cm H2O) but not in the HST without IMT group (0.7 ± 1.3 cm H2O; P Patent Document 1 discloses a technique in which a photograph of a subject is obtained by exposing an illumination region onto a plurality of light-sensitive cameras (photographing means) that have been ac619d1d87
