The King Edward Memorial Hospital, Hong Kong (abbreviated as KEMH), also known as KEM, is one of the main hospitals in Hong Kong. It is located in Kowloon, Hong Kong Island and is affiliated with the Hong Kong University. It is ranked as the top hospital in Hong Kong and among the best hospitals in the world, according to the US-based 'hc-index'.
History
The hospital is named after King Edward VII, who was the first king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious hospitals in the world due to its high-level medical services and reputation. The hospital also houses the Prince of Wales Medical School.
The hospital was opened on 18 December 1949 in the former Pui O Military Hospital. It was the first public hospital to open in Hong Kong. It is a six-storey building. The hospital is now named after former Governor of Hong Kong Sir Allan Williams, and forms part of the Kowloon West Cluster of Hospitals.
Operations
The hospital is operated by the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong. It is a public hospital which is free to use. There are seven public outpatient clinics around the city, two of which are situated within the hospital. The rest of the clinics are located at the Public Health Centre of the Kowloon West Cluster of Hospitals and MTR West Rail Hospital Station, also known as West Kowloon Hospital Station.

The King Edward Memorial Hospital is a six-storey building with a total of 288 beds in the main hospital and 114 beds in the Wards Block. The Wards Block is situated on the 4th and 5th floors. The new building is named Kowloon West Cluster of Hospitals. The new building is now occupied by the Royal Hong Kong Hospital School.
